Will Vaulks was this week’s player attendee at the pre-match press conference. Here’s what he had to say;

On how close it is

Sky must have predicted that for this game to come so late in the season. I can’t wait for it. We’ve put ourselves into a great position after one round in this mini season and both teams will be up for it. It’s a six pointer. There’s no point denying it’s a big game. There’s no denying there will be more twists and turns and this game won’t define the play-offs, but it will help.

On the return to football

It’s strange, but to be fair, I was pleasantly surprised by the Leeds game and how much it felt like an actual game. Once you cross the line, you really do just focus on the game and winning it. Thought we were competitive from the first whistle. It’s just a weird world for everyone and we’ve just got to adapt.

On feeling confident

We’ve not gotten carried away. We fancy ourselves going into every game and we prepared well for Leeds and stuck to our game plan. Now we just need to use that to kick on because Preston is as big, if not bigger.

On missing the Euro’s and his wedding

Yeah, I should have got married and potentially been at the Euro’s. Two pretty big things have been cancelled for me, but it’s unprecedented and I’ll get married and have the chance to go to a major tournament, hopefully. Our marriage was going to be abroad and we looked at rearranging, but even those have been cancelled here.

On being the underdogs

We haven’t been spoken about very much and that doesn’t bother me. It’s good to go under the radar and even with the play-off places so open, there’s been loads of predictions for other teams. We’ve put ourselves in a good spot and we’ll crack on behind the scenes to get ourselves there in eight games time.

On his resurgence

If I’m being truthful, he’s [Harris] just given me a chance. He hasn’t transformed me, but he knew what I could so and he knew about me from playing against each other and he’s just given me a chance.

On making up for missing his summer plans

Yes, that [Wembley] would definitely make up for it! Promotion would definitely make up for it. It would be great to get there and it’s looking good so far.
