Neil Etheridge

Failed to inspire confidence at times. Slipped and went full length to head the ball out for a corner and let a back pass slip under his foot. He did recover well to clear. Top quality shot-stopper, but weak with the ball at his feet 5

Lee Peltier

Switched to centre-back when Morrison went off for treatment on a wrist problem. Gavin Whyte slotted in at right-back temporarily. ‘Pelts’ is a top right-back at this level 6

Sean Morrison (capt)

Suffered a wrist injury early on. He already had one wrist strapped heavily and then hurt the other arm. Was able to carry on after treatment. Magnificent late tackle to deny Ayew 6

Aden Flint

Good defender, but has to be more aware when he goes forward for set-pieces. Twice he was picked out by a good cross and twice he had wandered offside. For an experienced defender, that’s awful 5

Joe Bennett

Had a far better second half. He wasn’t bad during the first 45 minutes, but, boy, did he step things up. Came through in style, both defending and attacking 7

Gavin Whyte – Man of the Match

Building an excellent partnership with right-back Peltier down the right. It’s great to see that link blossoming. A player who is starting to shine in the Championship. Top signing. Could have scored from Joe Bennett’s cross, but the volley flew straight at the ‘keeper 7

Marlon Pack

City need more from Pack. Clearly a quality midfield player at Championship level, but I want to seem him influencing games far more. Was on the front foot as often as possible, but I simply believe there is more to come 7

Joe Ralls

The only player booked, for an awkward tackle on Grimes. Byers became involved when there was no need and was lucky not to see yellow as well. Energetic, box-to-box midfield player, but he, too, can produce more 6

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing

Had the beating of Naughton down his side. Clever selection by Warnock. Replaced by Paterson when Cardiff were chasing the game 6

Robert Glatzel

The understanding between the German and Ward was poor. Both did okay individually, but there needed to be more understanding. Suffered hamstring injury and replaced by Bogle after 63 minutes 5

Danny Ward

Decent with the ball at his feet, but didn’t win enough in the air. The link with Glatzel didn’t work at all. Ward/Bogle worked far better after Glatzel went off injured 6
