Player Ratings – Derby County 1, Cardiff City 1

Alex Smithies

Started the season effectively as third choice goalkeeper behind Etheridge and Day, but he’s has been in excellent form. Faultless at Pride Park where he commanded his area, made some good saves and distributed well 8

Lee Peltier

Consistently effective. Among the best right-backs in Championship football 7

Sean Morrison (capt)

Gives everything for the Bluebirds’ cause. Major presence in both penalty areas – and caused problems for Derby when he went up for corners and Paterson’s long throws 7

Aden Flint

The big man is highly effective alongside Morrison. The question for Warnock is how to utilise Sol Bamba when he is fit and ready in a week or two 7

Joe Bennett

I like watching Bennett and Murphy down the left. They are building a useful link when going forward, but need to be sharper when the opposition are attacking 6

Leandro Bacuna – Man of the Match

After all the stress of international duty with Curacao, arriving back in the UK on the day of the game, he was outstanding. Bacuna is gaining confidence match-by-match and must be one of the first names on Warnock’s team sheet 8

Joe Ralls

When Ralls and Bacuna are able to link up with Pack, who is close to a return, we’ll see the best of Cardiff’s midfield, particularly when Tomlin joins Gratzell in attack 6

Callum Paterson

Called up when Tomlin was ruled out after suffering whiplash in a car accident. Effective in the air, but the service to Paterson and Gratzell was poor 6

Josh Murphy

There is something about Murphy’s style which picks him out as a special talent. But we need to see more of that style over the coming weeks. Tends to fade out of games at times 6

Gavin Whyte

A 23-year-old with bags of potential. HIs best will come later in the season. After all this is a first season at Championship level after playing League One football for Oxford and in Northern Ireland with Crusaders 6

Robert Glatzel

Now let’s see Glatzel go. His first goal for Cardiff will fire up confidence – watch out Midsdlesbrough next Saturday 7

Subs:

for Murphy 60 mins. Good to see Hoilett in action following family illness issues 6

For Whyte 61 mins. Hoilett and Mendez-Laing were asked to provide a threat from wide areas and they worked hard 6
