Joe Day

Full debut and home debut for the 28-year-old Brighton-born goalkeeper, signed from Newport County over the summer 6

Cameron Coxe – Man of the Match

Crunching tackle to stop his winger early on. Defensively sound, offers an outlet when he goes forward down the right. Lee Peltier is number one right-back for City, but Coxe is composed in possession, disciplined and an able deputy 8

Curtis Nelson

Full debut and home debut for the defender and he looked the part at the heart of defence. Played alongside captain Flint at centre-back. His lone first team appearance before this cup tie was at Reading when he replaced the injured Marlon Pack 7

Aden Flint (captain)

Wore the Cardiff C for the evening with Sean Morrison rested and, for the most part, did a steady job. Luton’s third, though, was a messy, horrible goal from a home viewpoint 6

Ciaron Brown

Operated at left-back against the Hatters. Usually a centre-half, but did exceptionally well playing out of position. Consistent apart from one error before Luton’s third goal 6

Will Vaulks

Has started two first team fixtures this season. Central midfield was a problem for the Bluebirds. Vaulks and Paterson’s partnership looked uncomfortable and there was a limited service for the front two. Luton dominated possession and looked far sharper through the middle 6

Callum Paterson

Played a midfield holding role. It was a rare appearance in a midfield two for the Bluebirds, alongside Will Vaulks. They looked out of sorts, certainly during the first half 6

Gavin Whyte

Works hard, hassling the visitors at every opportunity. I want to see far more creativity from the former Oxford player, but he shows glimpses of decent form 6

Junior Hoilett

Slow to react when James Bree powered forward and, trying to cover, dangled out a leg and watched ing horror as a low cross struck his leg and rolled into the far corner 5

Omar Bogle

Played alongside Vassell in a front two. Worked hard and tried to make things happen. Both Bogle and Vassell had shooting chances, but could not find the right strike. It was a disappointing performance from the striker and he made way for Madine with 65 minutes gone 5

Isaac Vassell

The former Luton striker scored a last minute Bluebirds winner when the Hatters visited Cardiff City earlier this month. But this wasn’t his night and the partnership with Bogle did not really work. Made way for teenager Shamar Moore after 65 minutes 5
