Cardiff City fell to a defeat on the opening day of the Championship season for the first time in nine years.
The Bluebirds travelled up North to Wigan to face Paul Cook’s side. Despite taking the lead through a Joe Ralls strike, Cardiff lost the game 3-2 with Omar Bogle grabbing Cardiff’s second.
Here’s how fans reacted to the match.
Cardiff fans praised
Cardiff took almost 3,000 fans to Wigan for the opening match, more than any other away side on the match day.

Paise for Omar Bogle
A forgotten man, Bogle has worked hard to fight his way back into the Cardiff first-team mix. After a positive pre-season, he grabbed his first goal of the season against Wigan.
Omar Bogle is subbed on for first Cardiff appearance since 16 January 2018. Scores five minutes later.

Why in the f**k don’t we start @OmarBogle9 every game? I’m telling you, he properly knows where the net is. Yet again another goal. When will people listen?! 🔥🔥🔥

Questions over Reid & Murphy
Reid & Murphy have all the potential to be key players in the Championship, but fell under the radar on Saturday.
He’s just too inconsistent, sometimes he’s prem quality sometimes he’s not even League 1 quality
— Harri Burt (@HarriBurt) August 4, 2019
Josh Murphy should be dominant at this level. He has everything, but more often than not, it doesn’t click. It’s not any one thing either. Sometimes poor decision making, sometimes he loses concentration or is a bit clumsy. It’s very frustrating

Josh Murphy – 6
So frustrating. Bags of ability, positive and direct, but often fails at the final moment. Tripped over his feet twice in dangerous positions, and blasted one cross from the by-line high above everyone when he just needed to show a cool head and pick someone out. pic.twitter.com/YiMXM1xXEx

Fans feel Madine isn’t the man
Madine got the nod but underwhelmed. So much, even his biggest fan Paul Gronow thinks it’s time to give up on the £6million man.
Having slept, I can sum it up as below:
1️⃣ Madine isn’t the right guy for us (heartbreaking for me to say as I’ve been his biggest fan).
2️⃣ Lee Tomlin and Omar Bogle should not be sold and should be given the chance to shine.
3️⃣ I both love and hate football in equal measure.

Gary Madine – 6
How fans think ironically cheering him scoring in the warm-up will help his confidence is beyond me. Seemed to respond by shaking his head when asked to do the ayatollah. Good link up play but didn’t offer the goal scoring threat of Bogle. May need a new start. pic.twitter.com/XwH4hyi6km

Gary Madine ineffective and subbed. Well there’s a surprise! Got to bring in the extra forward this week and try and move this player on for his good and the club’s. Hope that is only start for us, we got real problems if it isnt. @cardiffcitymad
