Cardiff produced a competent performance against their visiting French opposition, here we take a look at the player ratings. Let us know your thoughts @VFTNinian

Neil Etheridge

Largely untested with only a handful of tame shots coming his way. 6

Lee Peltier

Peltier put in a great shift against a very lacklustre OGC Nice attack. His last ditch tackle was particularly impressive. 7

Aden Flint

Looks an absolute unit. Between him and Morrison at the back I’d hate to be any opposing attackers. You’re literally running at a brick wall. Didn’t do much wrong, but not really a lot for him to do. Won most headers and seems to read the game well, making up for his severe lack of pace. 6

Sean Morrison

Again, not much to do but made a few impressive tackles especially nullifying a Nice attack with a pin-point perfect slide tackle in our own box. 6

Joe Bennett

Very positive fullback play from our Joe. Seemed to want to get forward constantly but not at the expense of defensive reliability. Great both going forwards and his defensive work. 7

Josh Murphy

I don’t like to give our poor ratings, but it seemed everything Murphy touched today turned into nothing. Plagued by poor touches, poor dribbles and wastefulness it was one to forget for our number 11. 4

Bobby Cordova-Reid

Some fancy touches and turns gives Reid an extra point, otherwise a complete mirror of Murphy’s performance. Neither of them looked like coming close to scoring. 5

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing – Man of the Match

Such an electric performance from our neckless hero. Since he posted that video of him leaving a Newport defender for dust, we’ve all noticed a new level of pace from Mendez-Laing, and you bet he showed it off today. A complete handful for the Nice fullbacks. I cannot wait to see what he does this season. I’m starting to believe we might have truly found a gem here. 8

Gary Madine

Went off injured in the 28th minute without really doing anything at all other than show us he’s absolutely massive now.

Subs (that done enough for a rating)

Danny Ward

Didn’t impress at all with a somewhat invisible presence today. 5

Lee Tomlin

Looked so up for it, and displayed those magical signature first touched we know him for. Could have scored a couple and proved more effective in his 25 minutes than most of our starting players. 6.5

Omar Bogle

Looked very dangerous, it’s just a shame he wasted his two clear cut opportunities. His positioning is very promising. 6
