With our main striker on his way out, we really should look at who would be ideal to replace Zohore. There’s plenty of talk amongst our fanbase and an equal amount of silly rumours flying about, as expected. Are we tired of the target man style striker or do we look for a more modern age versatile striker? Here’s my take on the names that have been bandied about:

Britt Assombalonga

Its been widely reported we’re serious about Middlesbrough’s record signing. It was only a couple of years ago he was one of the most coveted strikers in English football, so with the Zohore cash-in this would be an incredible replacement. I think he’d fit the Cardiff philosophy extremely well, and as long as he stays fit he’s got the stats to fire us right back to the Premier League. 7

Glenn Murray

This smells of a Kenny Miller/Heider Helguson situation where we’re just looking to fill a gap for next season with someone who’s almost going to guarantee us a double-figure return. Murray, who’s now 35, would be an outstanding signing for us in that respect racking up 25 Premier League goals in his last two seasons. With Warnock being a big admirer, I can see this one happening. Let’s just hope it doesn’t turn out to be a Ricky Lambert situation if it does materialise. 8

Charlie Austin

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has made it very clear that Austin is no longer a part of his vision of the Saints squad. Austin even recently ranted on Twitter about being frozen out, leading him to deactivating his account. Still with a few years left in him, there’s no denying he’d be an amazing coup for any Championship team, it’s just whether he’d want to drop down a division after four seasons in the top-flight. 9

Andy Carroll

It’s worth talking about Carroll because there’s not a lot of interest shown in him right now. Although bookies seem to think Palace are favourites, there’s not much traction there. There’s no denying a fully-fit Andy Carroll would absolutely tear the Championship to pieces, it’s just a very unlikely move for him. I’d love to see him here, but I can see him going abroad to a Turkish club or accepting a stupidly attractive Chinese offer. If fit, Carroll would be a solid 10

Enzo Crivelli

Respected French news outlet L’equipe reported we’ve made contact to Caen over striker Crivelli, but this speculation leaves me utterly inspired if so. With just 20 goals in 117 games I can’t fathom why we’d be seeking his signature as there’s no indication he’d be any form of replacement for Rhys Healey let alone Zohore. Relegated to Ligue 2, I plead that we leave this one at just a rumour. 3

Lewis Grabban

I’ve been a long time admirer or Grabban. The guy just scores goals plain and simply. He was even prolific for that awful Sunderland side made famous by Netflix. Grabban still has 3 years left on his deal after his £6m signing for Forest so I’d imagine they’d want all of that back and if you ask me it would be money well spent. A great way to invest the Zohore money. Perhaps give him the rest to sort his questionable facial hair out. 9

Callum Paterson

There’s no denying we need to invest in a striker with Big Ken leaving, but no-one seems to be discussing the fact we already have a perfectly capable MD 20/20 consuming Scottsman in our ranks who’s more than capable of banging a few in. I believe people think of it as the boring option as we all love a big money transfer. That’s all well and good, but why not invest in what we already have and bring in back-up for Patterson who scored 10 goals for us in the Championship from an advanced midfield position and even banged a few in when he was up top for us in the Premier League? If Patterson delivers what I think he can, it would be an absolute pleasure seeing up lead the line. 9
