Ahead of our huge fixture away to Burnley at Turf Moor, we have a look at how the Bluebirds match up to Burnley pound for pound. Next up is the centre-back battle:
Bruno Ecuele Manga
The Gabon centre-back is another a strong contender for Player of the Season, a fact that’s even more amazing when you consider he has spent half of the season playing out of position at right-back.
The Bluebirds faithful have always be in awe of Manga who combines both class with a killer touch at the back. Comfortable both in the air and on the deck, Manga has the rare knack of being in the right place at the right time.
An ever-present at the back this season for the Bluebirds, he was the first Cardiff City player to score a competitive goal this season (much to the relief of Bluebirds everywhere).
- Games played: 32 games
- Tackles made: 59 (1.8 per game)
- Goals scored: 0 (1 cup goal)
This may be the end of the road for Bruno and the Bluebirds regardless of this season’s outcome, whatever happens he will always occupy a special place in Cardiff City hearts.
England’s newest centre-back, Tarkowski has emerged as a genuine top-drawer defender who in his in own words is looking to replace John Stones as Harry Maguire’s partner at the heart of the English defence.
Originally from Oldham Athletic, he was another player to benefit from the Brentford FC treatment. Having spent just two years at the Championship club, he was snapped up for a bargain £3.60 million by Burnley in February 2016 and has gone on to make some 98 appearances scoring 3 goals so far this season.
His goals scored statistic is more impressive than Manga who, like his fellow centre-back Morrison, has disappointed in the opposition box more than most. Tarkowski is an absolute monster at the back and rarely flustered on the ball.
- Games played: 30 games
- Tackles made: 60 (2 per game)
- Goals scored: 3
Oumar Niasse, Bobby Reid or Kenneth Zohore. Whoever it is starting front for the Bluebirds this Saturday is going to need to be on the very best form to get the better of Tarkowski.
